"The tracks comprise charming melodic tunes from around the world" - The Korean Times
"The wheat is ripe. "Live is Solitude" is a bountiful harvest." - Gaz-Eta.
"HORKESKART" acted as a conceptual & unique group from 2000 to 2006, based in Belgrade.
In the autumn of the year 2000, new amateur choir & orchestra group was formed for the presentation of talented art and design group SKART's project named "YOUR SHIT - YOUR RESPONSIBILITY". The project had purpose of raising the level of public consciousness and personal responsibility by means of contemporary art and music. Informed by Radio B92 announcement, all who came to audition were accepted, their gift for music not being checked. During their first performance at The Center For Cultural Decontamination (CZKD) in Belgrade, they had to perform three times due to the long standing ovations of the present crowd. That was how "HORKESKART" (choir + orchestra + skart, in Serbian) was born.
Before long, they evolved into an unparalleled punk band that has 45 singers. But soon after releasing this album, unfortunately "HORKESKART" collapsed because of conflict inside and SKART & some talented members left. SKART said that "Changing and even erasing past is very usual in Serbia". This album mainly consists of conceptual program recorded at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart during the German Tour in 2005. It's an impressive live recording in the most active period of the group.
The group's repertoire ranges from some "revolution" & "reconstruction" songs of the 40s and 50s Yugoslavia, mostly erased from the national radio archive, to scored poetry, chansons, punk songs and covers (Kraftwerk-"Antenna", Brassens-"Brave Margot"). So far they have gigged in a variety of places: orphanages, streets, refugee camps, rural elementary schools, but also in the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Belgrade and on the "Ring-Ring" festival of modern music. With their Croatian Tour in 2001, HORKESKART had been the first group of 50 people that officially crossed (with Belgrade license plates) the border between Serbia and Croatia since 1991 (the beginning of war), and performed in Zagreb as well as in Hum (a.k.a. "the smallest town in the world" - population: 17). In June 2006, they performed a hardcore piece NAZAD! (Rewind!) in front of the Belgrade University, the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Orthodox Church Patriarchy Building, the Supreme Court and the Government of Serbia, to point to the harmful institutions that initiate or do not fight against retrograde movements in Serbia.
