Get to know your dance music" compiles two short films about the technical conditionality of music production. As a lesson in well done edutainment, Gabe ShalomLs "House" tracks down the different styles, production procedures and cultural habits of electronic dance music. Switching between the fast-cut videoclip aesthetic and the fact based narrative of an interview with DJ Scott Hardkiss, this videomusic documentary stands for an inspiring new genre of music related film. "Bassline Baseline" by Nate Harrison is a video essay that investigates the invention, failure and subsequent resurrection of the mythic Roland TB-303 Bass Line music machine in the last two decades of the 20th century. The narrative seeks to invite thoughts on technological mediation within product innovation and creative expression. The dead-panned 'documentary' video attempts to explore how and why creative tools fail and how increasingly more options, parameters or intermediaries devised during a tool's research and development phase don't necessarily lead to increased expressivity or virtuosity during the tool's lifetime of actual use, unless the super-structure of its cultural context is dramtically reconsidered.

Due to the consideration that not only products but concepts and ideas need publicity, this project is about producing "commercials for a concept". "Commercials for a Concept" are ads - but not for products. They are ads for ideas, concepts or utopian product suggestions. Artists and music video directors were invited to create clips on the theme "Ideas for Europe". The result is 24 entertaining and experimental advertising clips that offer unconventional solutions for social, personal and philosophical problems. "Ideas for Europe - 24 Commercials for a Concept" is a project by Graw BoNckler. Commissioned by the 53rd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen 2007. How do you help a person who is in a life-threatening situation? Can one make a bearnaise sauce in the buff? What kinds of visual postproduction effects are there? How can I legalize marijuana and prevent mass animal transport? What do Japanese words mean in English? Can one trust oneself? These and other questions form the creative starting points for "how to" - a DVD project by photo artists and filmmakers Graw Böckler. The 13 music videos and short films, with or without sound, convey useful and emotional knowledge. The performers Tujiko Noriko, Lena Böhm, Niobe, Bettina Latak and Katrin Hallenberger outdo each other with their naturalness in documentary settings. Many of the melancholic tracks are by the Japanese pop singer Tujiko Noriko. The other songs are by Niobe, Donna Regina, Nova Huta and Xiu Xiu.

The Parisian music video producer Charles Petit invited 16 young, mostly French, directors to each make a video for one of the tracks on the album "Aube Radieuse Serpents en flammes" by Etienne Charry. Etienne Charry became well-known as the singer of the band "Oui Oui", for whom, by the way, Michel Gondry made his first music videos and also played the drums. To accompany music that one could perhaps classify as "French underground pop", videos for "Aube Radieuse Serpents en flames" were produced in diverse genres - from photo collage to road movie, little narrative, 3D animation, or with 1920's silent film aesthetics. Etienne Charry is neither shown as a singer, nor is a style or corporate identity for the music strived for. Charry's songs are playful treasures and represent a French pop culture. His music is used by the filmmakers as a creative playground - with results that are always surprising: great entertainment on a tiny budget.
